Love season is finally here! During these tough times brought by the CoViD-19 pandemic, it has been difficult for people and lovers to connect and bond. Luckily, this February’s GG Fridays article will help you and your significant other find the perfect game for your online date night. For the singles out there, do not fret! The suggested games may also be played in groups of three or more.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
You’re trapped inside a room together with a ticking time bomb. Your soulmate, equipped with the right manual with all the instructions on how to defuse it, must help your partner. With you trapped, they wouldn’t know what the bomb would look like. It can be played by pair, or split up the pages of the manual to play in groups, or you can twist the rules however you want. But to finish it, you must do what the title exactly suggests – Keep talking, and nobody explodes. The game can be played with only one person owning the game, plus the recommended system requirements don’t require much, but here it is:
- OS: Windows 7 or higher.
- Processor: 1.5 GHz.
- Memory: 2 GB RAM.
- Graphics: 256MB DirectX 9 or higher.
- Storage: 1 GB available space.
- Additional Notes: A printed copy of the Bomb Defusal Manual or an additional web-enabled device to view the Bomb Defusal Manual is required.
The price of the game is P420 but watch out for Steam sales as it can go as low as P139. Read more here: https://keeptalkinggame.com/
Aternos Hosting (Minecraft)
A completely free and legal Minecraft server hosting service, Aternos provides a vanilla or modded Minecraft experience for you and your soulmate (or friends) with you on absolute control. Make your dream house, finish the game and have the adventure of a lifetime, or hold fun games using command blocks, the choice is yours. However, the server tends to be slow at some times and queue times for servers take up five to ten minutes at max. In order to host an Aternos server, you must make an account first, configure your server, and voila! System requirements for Minecraft Java Edition are as follows:
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit.
- Processor: Intel Core i3-3210 3.2 GHz / AMD A8-7600 APU 3.1 GHz or higher.
- Memory: 8 GB RAM.
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 700 Series or AMD Radeon Rx 200 Series with OpenGL 4.5
- Network: Broadband internet connection
- Storage: 4GB SSD
Minecraft starts at P1,383. Buy it here: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition. You can read more and make an Aternos account here: https://aternos.org/:en/
For mobile game enthusiasts, this is your game! A mobile game that features a 2v2 ranked system, but instead of weapons, you get a kitchen. You and your partner must grab, chop, and cook ingredients and serve food quicker than your opponents (who’s probably a couple too, we never know) within a certain time. Equipped with different chefs with unique abilities, you must use them to your advantage – either boost yourselves or make your opponents’ kitchen a nightmare. Caution, however, there’s heat in the kitchen and it might affect your relationship.
Cooking Battle is available on Android in Google Playstore for free, or you can play it in Bluestacks. Read more about Cooking Battle here: https://www.facebook.com/CookingBattle/
Parsec (Any couch co-op or versus games)
Parsec is a remote access desktop program. Think of it as a way for your partner to “use” your computer from theirs. With this logic, you can play couch games such as the Worms series, Rayman Legends, PICO PARK: Classic Edition, Overcooked, Portal 2, or even fighting games such as the beloved Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, or Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Take note that only one person needs to own the following games, and the system requirements depend on the game being played, though all parties need to have a good and stable internet connection and a game controller (a cheap USB controller will do). To use Parsec, all players must have a verified Parsec account from https://parsec.app/signup/ and download the Parsec app. Once downloaded, log in to your accounts and the game owner must “share” his PC and send the copied link to his partner or friends who will join. After that, configure the controls, join your discord servers, and you have yourself an online, but a home-y experience.
